How to record a video

  1. Start a design

    Log in or sign up to access the online video recorder. Open a project, pick a template, or start a design from scratch.

  2. Open the online video recorder

    Click Uploads > Record yourself > Record a talking head to create a recording of yourself. Check your settings and allow access to your webcam and microphone. If you’re using the desktop app, you can also access the Screen Recorder.

  3. Record yourself on the webcam

    Click Record when you’re ready. Once you’re finished, click Done. You can also Pause your webcam recording.

  4. Edit the video recording

    Your webcam recording is automatically saved in Uploads and added to the design. You can trim, crop, flip it, or use our AI video editing tools⁠(opens in a new tab or window).

  5. Launch your video design

    Once you’ve finalized the entire design, save or download it as an MP4. Share it to your socials, email it, or embed it on your website. You can also present it from Canva and share a viewable link.

  • First, check the data and privacy settings on your device to allow access to your microphone and camera. Once set up, create a design. Go to Uploads > Record Yourself and use our webcam recorder to make a video recording of yourself.

  • There are two ways to record yourself while presenting a presentation. First, you can create a webcam recording that you can add to the presentation. This video recording will be an editable element on your design. To do this, go to Uploads > Record yourself > Record a talking head.


    Second, you can record both yourself and your presentation in one video with Screen Recorder on the Canva desktop app. To do this, launch the desktop app, go to Videos > Screen recording > Record. As the app records the screen, you'll appear as a talking head in the corner. Once done, the screen recording will be a new video project.

  • You can record your screen with Screen Recorder in the Canva desktop app. Launch the app, then go to Videos > Screen recording to record you and your screen. Once done, the screen recording will be a new video project.

  • Yes, you can record yourself on the Canva mobile app. At the bottom of the editor, tap Uploads > Record yourself. Tap Record when you’re ready, and Done when you’re finished.


    Even if you’re on the go, you can make an online video recording of yourself and add it as an editable element in your video. Just keep in mind that screen recording is available only on the Canva desktop app.

  • Practice makes perfect! You can start rehearsing in the privacy of your room or in front of a mirror to memorize your talking points and try different delivery techniques. You can even take a test shot to see how you register and sound on a video recording. Keep doing it and ask for feedback from your peers. When it’s time to shoot your part, remember your talking points and work around them, so you remain authentic and avoid coming off as heavily scripted.
